Patrick Kon

I am a 3rd year Computer Science and Engineering Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) , working with Prof. Ang Chen . Before that, I was a PhD student at Rice University . I am broadly interested in security, systems, and networking. My main research thrust is in the area of internet censorship circumvention , a problem afflicting billions of individuals living under repressive regimes, where I develop novel systems to help users regain internet freedom. For example, check out our SpotProxy project and presentation videos. Currently, I am also interested in LLM agents, LLM-for-code, simplifying cloud infrastructure management, and IoT security.

I enjoy working alongside and mentoring undergrad/grad (non Ph.D.) students as well. Most of my ongoing and past projects have involved significant contribution from undergrad/grad students within and outside the US. Do reach out if you’d like to work with me; I will have a project that you can participate in. I am also affiliated with a startup focused on childhood learning and mental health, which has open positions too.
